About Us

Inner Piedmont Football Officials was formed in February of 2013 as a result of the statewide realignment of schools and assigning regions.  The association assigns officials for 47 North Carolina high schools in 15 counties, mostly located west of I-77 to the base of the Appalachian Mountains, and from the state lines of  Virginia/Tennessee to South Carolina.   The IPFO assigns games for the following conferences:  Northwestern, Southern Piedmont, Mountain Valley, Southwestern Athletic, South Fork Athletic, Northwestern Foothills and North Piedmont.

Our officials are assigned to varsity and junior varsity contests.  All officials must be registered with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, attend local-regional-State conducted clinics, and successfully pass the NFHS exam.  (80% for playoffs; 75% for eligibility requirement)  Officials working varsity football must have at least two years of scholastic football experience at a lower level.  Local rules clinics begin in June.  Clinics are conducted in Boone, Gastonia, Hickory, Morganton, Rutherfordton, and Mooresville.
